The 2019 ADCC Championship takes place this weekend from September 27th to the 29th in Los Angeles, California. Round 1 will take place on Saturday, with the semifinals, finals, and bronze medal matches on Sunday. Weigh ins and brackets take place on Friday. Flograppling will be streaming the action live. The +60kg women’s bracket consists of 8 athletes, including the 2017 champion, 3 trials winners and 4 invited athletes.
2017 champion: Gabi Garcia (BRA)
Gabi Garcia is very easily the favorite out of this division, with 3 ADCC Championship titles, 2011, 2013, and 2017. She is also a 6x Black Belt IBJJF World Champion, 3x Pan American Champion, 2x European Champion, and Brazilian Nationals Champion. Gabi is one of the most decorated jiujitsu athletes, and is an IBJJF Hall of Famer. Gabi Garcia has transitioned into MMA, holding a record of 6 wins and 0 losses, and 1 no contest. The question is if anyone here will be able to beat Gabi Garcia.
North American Trials Winner: Amanda Leve (USA) – Renzo Gracie Academy
Amanda Leve won her way to the ADCC Championship by flying armbar in the Finals at the West Coast American Trials earlier this year. She is a brown belt and head instructor and owner of Leve BJJ in Philadelphia. She is a multiple time IBJJF World Champion, ADCC Superfight Champion, and EBI veteran. At 22, regardless of the outcome, this won’t be the last time we see Amanda.
South American Trials Winner: Carina Santi (BRA) – G13
South American Trials winner Carina Santi is a black belt representing Brazil under Julio Pinheiro. She is a 3x Gi and 2x Nogi Brazilian Nationals Champion, 2x Europeans Champion, and Pan American and Master World Silver Medalist. She faced Gabi Garcia in the finals at Pans this year, and a rematch in nogi would be surely exciting.
European Trials Winner: Stephanie Egger (SUI) –

Stephanie Egger is a professional mma fighter and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu blue belt out of Switzerland making her ADCC debut this weekend. Holding a professional record of 4 wins and 1 loss, not much is known about Stephanie in the jiujitsu community, but her Judo background can create some interesting match ups. Don’t count this underdog out, anything can happen at ADCC.
Invited: Jessica Flowers (BRA) – Gracie Barra
Jessica Flowers is a Gracie Barra Black Belt under Henrique Machado representing Brazil. She is a Nogi World Champion, Pan American Champion, and Fight2Win veteran. She is one of the few in this division with wins over Gabi Garcia. In previous ADCC Championships she placed 3rd in 2017 and 2nd in 2015. We expect a strong showing from Jessica.
Invited: Tayane Porfirio (BRA) – Gracie Barra
Tayane Porfirio is a 4x IBJJF World Champion, 4x European Champion, 2x Brazilian Nationals Champion, and Pan American Champion. Tayane is a well decorated athlete, but she is known for her work in the gi. As one of Gabi’s biggest rivals in this division, we will have to see how her jiujitsu transfers to nogi.
Invited: Nathiely de Jesus (BRA) – Rodrigo Pinheiro BJJ
Nathilely de Jesus is a relatively new black belt, receiving her black belt after earning double gold at IBJJF Worlds in 2016. Since then she has won worlds every year for a total of 5 world titles. In addition Nathi is a 3x Nogi World Champion, 2x American Nationals Champion, 2x European Champion, and Pan American Champion. She also recently had an impressive wins over Gabi Garcia and Jessica Flowers at Fight2Win. This 23 year old is early in her jiujitsu career, and could well add an ADCC title to her already impressive resume.
Invited: Ana Carolina Vieira (BRA) – GF Team
Ana Viera is a 3x Black Belt World Champion receiving her black belt in 2016, and winning worlds every year since. She is also a Nogi World Champion, and Fight2Win veteran. Ana is one of the lighter athletes in this division, arguably one of the best middle weight female athletes right now. Don’t let her size fool you, she won’t be an easy opponent for anyone.
